Now, that idealism lay in ruins on a desolate racetrack just outside San Francisco.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before an estimated crowd of 300,000 people, The Rolling Stones headlined a free concert featuring Tina Turner, Jefferson Airplane, The Flying Burrito Brothers and others. Concerned about security, organizers enlisted members of the outlaw biker gang the Hells Angels to help maintain order.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead, an atmosphere of fear and tension took hold, culminating in the fatal stabbing of a concertgoer.
