In the early 1970s, Sixto Rodriguez recorded two albums for a Motown label. They were commercial failures, and rumours even spread that he had committed suicide on stage. Rodriguez disappeared from public view and was all but forgotten.

Except in South Africa, where, unbeknownst to him, his music became a symbol of the struggle against Apartheid.

Years later, two devoted fans from Cape Town set out to discover what had happened to the mysterious “Sugar Man”. What they uncover is an extraordinary story filled with surprises, emotion and inspiration.
