The landmark documentary about the tragically ill-fated Rolling Stones free concert held at Altamont Speedway on December 6, 1969.

Only four months earlier, Woodstock had come to define the Love Generation. Now, that idealism lay in ruins on a desolate racetrack just outside San Francisco.

Before an estimated crowd of 300,000 people, The Rolling Stones headlined a free concert featuring Tina Turner, Jefferson Airplane, The Flying Burrito Brothers and others. Concerned about security, organizers enlisted members of the outlaw biker gang the Hells Angels to help maintain order.

Instead, an atmosphere of fear and tension took hold, culminating in the fatal stabbing of a concertgoer. What began as a flower-power celebration descended into near-riot conditions, leaving behind frightened and bewildered faces questioning how the optimism of the Love Generation could so suddenly give way to disillusionment and despair.
